QSMS - Press 'Q' to Compose SMS

Just like you can hit ‘C’ to compose an email, you can use the ‘Q’ shortcut to compose an SMS!

To enable shortcut, please disable “Dial from home screen” option through Phone > Options. BlackBerry Pearl does not support shortcut, but you can still use QSMS through its icon or by assigning it to convenience key through Options > Screen/Keyboard.

Wow this works on my 8320. Thanks

This is an incredible convenience, thank you! I don't know the first thing about coding in Java but I'd like to believe that once the code has been written for something like this, it might be simple to duplicate it to perform other home key shortcut functions, no? Say, for example, launching the camera? Being that the 8320 only has two convenience keys to work with, it'd be great to free one of them up to do something else.

i can't download OTA. can you provide the .jar file (or an .alx & .cod file)?

Would you mind sharing the code for this? I'm new to Java and would like to learn how to make a keyboard shortcut like this!

Great job!

It worked right after installation but stopped after a soft reboot. Now q calls up ICQ. Please help!

BerryCoder said...

If you don't use ICQ, just delete the application to enable QSMS. Probably ICQ is set to use 'Q' as the shortcut like BlackBerryMessenger by pressing 'N'.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, I deleted ICQ & now Q works for QSMS! I wonder if we can reassign keys for either ICQ &/or QSMS. I'm using USA T-Mobile Curve OS4.5 & found 3 keys not mapped: E, J, Z.

Tony,

What BB are you using? The shortcut only works with QWERTY type BB. You also need to disable the DIAL FROM HOME SCREEN feature.

Hope it helps.

I'm using the 9000 Blackberry Bold. I could not find the option to disable the "Dial from Home Screen".
>.< Looking for help.

Cheers !

Tony,

Go to dial screen (the green phone button) then press menu (the BB logo button), select option, go to general option, you'll see the Dial From Home Screen option, set it to no and save.

good luck.

Problem solved. Thank you for your help.

this is exactly what i was looking for, but unfortunately it conflicts with the "quicknote" app -- any way to make the shortcut key user-selectable? thanks either way, great app!

installed on my 8900 with 'qwertz' keyboard and got the error:install() null error when I pressed Q or click the icon. can you make it working also for 'qwertz' not only for 'qwerty'?

I can't find compose sms as an option on my 8100 pearl.

how can I set one of the side buttons to go to this screen?

Anonymous said...

On my 8900, qsms is in my app download folder and doesn't work when I press "q". Please help.

Q only launches ICQ on my 8900. Changed setting to Left convenience key instead. I was previously using this key for my alarm clock, so if there is a way to change this setting I would appreciate it.

Thank you for this app!

i have the 8350i blackberry I have disabled the Dial from Home option however when trying to use the app it gives me the: install() null error when I pressed Q or click the icon. What else should i try?

Anonymous said...

8900 users, you have to move the app out of the downloads folder to the home folder (you can then hide it if you want) in order to override the ICQ shortcut.

Can there be a software that sends an SMS to all phone numbers on your Address book (including multiple numbers for recepients)

This is amazing!!! The one thing really missing from Blackberry! The best application for BB!! Many thanks.

Awesome, thank you!

The simplicity to usefulness ratio for this app is 1:1.

Thank You!

Suggestion to BerryCoder:

Could you PLEASE develop a shortcut that activates standby mode. It can be a bit cumbersome to hold down mute for 2 seconds (of course, BB users have a very low cumbersomeness threshold). Also, there are some skins / cases that block access to the button.

Standby apps currently exist (e.g. Easy Standby & Auto Standby) but they activate standby after a specified period of time. And both of these apps are reportedly quite buggy. A simple shortcut (x perhaps) is really all that's needed.

Thanks again for Q SMS

Please be consistent with JAD and installed icon name, e.g. rename everything to QSMS (vs. qsms, or Qsms).

Anonymous said...

You can compose with a hotkey using this product, but can you send as well?

Please answer about the "activate error (): null" problem. I have used qsms for a year with no problems and it just stopped working. I changed my theme yesterday and I think that might be the problem, except when I changed back to the theme I had before, I still had the same error message. Please help!
